Help us celebrate the High Museum’s 100th birthday through a series of special Centennial-only conversations in the museum galleries and special drop-in, art-making sessions. Come as you are and stay as long as you like. See more information on the day’s programs below.
All programs are drop-in and first come, first served, unless otherwise noted. Please note that the museum cannot accommodate group visits on Access for All days, including docent-led group tours and self-guided groups for schools, corporations, aging services organizations, senior residences, and other community-based organizations. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the High Museum’s collection through the perspectives of the people who know it best. Through informal conversations, museum staff will highlight works of art that hold personal significance, reveal fascinating histories, or reflect important moments in the growth of the collection. Discover new stories, unexpected connections, and the evolving vision that continues to shape the High’s collection today.
History Spotlight: J.J. Haverty and the High
Robinson Atrium | 11:00 a.m.
Explore the pivotal role J. J. Haverty played in the founding of the High Museum of Art and the development of its earliest collection through this interactive gallery tour. Drawing on archival research and conversations with key benefactors, this tour will trace the relationships, gifts, and advocacy that helped transform Atlanta’s vision for an art museum into a lasting institution, revealing how Haverty’s legacy continues to shape the High today.
The tour meets in the Robinson Atrium and lasts approximately sixty minutes. Assistive-listening devices and stools will be provided.
Daily HIGHlights Tour
Taylor Lobby | 1 p.m.
Engage directly with a handful of featured artworks through a docent-led HIGHlights tour! Learn about the museum’s history and collection, relationship with Atlanta, and a selection of artworks through close observation and thoughtful conversation.
This tour meets in front of the elevators in Taylor Lobby and lasts approximately sixty minutes. Stools will be available and are highly recommended.
Art Making
Open Studio: Postcards from the High Museum
Anne Cox Chambers Wing Lobby | 10 a.m.–12 noon and 2–4 p.m.
Celebrate the High Museum’s 100th birthday through a hands-on artmaking experience. Using collage and image-transfer techniques, participants can create original postcards inspired by works from the collection, the museum’s iconic architecture, and other scenes from around the High.
Design a postcard to keep or send to a friend or loved one as a creative way to share the celebration. Whether highlighting a favorite artwork, commemorating a visit, or spreading the word about the High’s centennial, participants can create a unique memento of the occasion. Postage is on us.
Please note that the Greene Family Learning Gallery will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
